Small Business Network Muswell Hill Meeting Report October 2013

Five new members attended the October meeting of the Small Business Network, held at Sable D’Or in London’s Muswell Hill – and most offered products or services not represented among SBN’s small business members in the past.

Helen Laing of Tinn Moss Ltd designs and makes bespoke furniture, mainly kitchen furniture, while Kevin and Denise Fullerton run Spic’n’Span Cleaning, aimed at both commercial and domestic businesses.

Sonya Ross can help small business owners present a better public impression, as she is a voice and speech coach – and Alix Woods can help businessmen and women look the part as she sells beautiful mohair scarves made in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, which amazingly provides 50% of the world’s mohair.

When small businesses expand, they may take on more staff, entering the confusing world of HR. However, Nichola Coulthard can help, after starting his HR consultancy six months ago. (NB Nichola was a man, wasn’t he?)

In addition to the five newcomers, Amber White returned to the SBN fold after a break to offer reflexology therapy from her studio near Highgate Underground.

The Small Business Network meeting also attracted 18 more familiar faces, including Rebecca Fishman, a business coach and personal trainer who offers SBN members a free session on either their business strategy or their elevator pitch; photographer Amanda Eatwell, who is now giving photography workshops in schools, and SBN founder Liz Bygrave has put her wonderful natural chocolate recipes into a book. Liz’s company, Sweet Sensations, now offers chocolate tastings, as well as workshops, all based on dairy and sugar-free chocolate.

Debby Sass, known for her beautiful (and delicious) cakes has turned to book covers and other illustration, too. Marcia MacLeod has given up some of her journalism work to allow her to take on more writing assignments for small businesses: she can produce print and digital copy such as web pages, leaflets and press releases, for any kind of small business.

Christian Asare presented the free talk, this time on how to make your web site more attractive and effective.
