Small Business Network Muswell Hill Meeting Report February 2013

Nine new networkers joined the February meeting of the Small Business Network at Sable D’Or in Muswell Hill, swelling the number to a very healthy 24. The eight ranged from alternative medicine practitioners and business coaching and marketing professionals to de-clutterers and chocoholics.

Vikki Parker, who offers reflexology, Reiki healing and Indian head massage under the name Gaialuna, plans to set up groups for parents and children, aged 4-12. Bebe Jacobs’ Energize Your Business also provides Reiki, Indian head massage and other therapies, but she combines that with things like parenting coaching for those with pre-school and primary school aged youngsters and business services such as Talent Dynamics, a profiling of employees’ strengths and weaknesses.

Chris Clayton also offers small business coaching, but with a difference: her company, achieve with an LP Ltd, specialises in helping musicians. Zoey Cooper works for Polkadot Global, which creates marketing material and offers translation services, while Sarah Pollinger, a financial adviser for small businesses and individuals, likes to ‘keep it simple’ so small business owners aren’t confused by economics.

Another first time networker, Marianne Smink designs and supplies wallpaper and tiles for home and small business office. Sticking with home-related services, Nicky Glantz provides a de-cluttering service which small businesses could probably benefit from as much as some flats and houses. Nicky is offering a special deal for SBN members: book three sessions before Easter or Passover and get three for the price of two.

If all that work de-cluttering and re-decorating proves too much, turn to Lucy Keany, who finds and supplies fine chocolate from around the world and uses it to make chocolate boxes, ideal for gifts as well as a bit of personal indulgence.

Finally, for another real personal touch, Ian Lucas’s company, IGL Interactive, helps people create and publish family histories and personal stories to keep memories alive for future generations.

Despite the huge number of new small business networkers, older Small Business Network members were not left out. Dominique Meeroff and Ella Owen of Sacred Life Alchemy were promoting their The Power of the Heart Training workshops, the next one of which will be held on 9/10 March.

Sarah Montgomery, well-known to other Small Business Network members for her Aloe Vera products, is having a open evening at her home on Wednesday, 5 March, from 17.00-21.00 as part of Oxfam’s Let’s Get Together, in aid of the International Women’s Day. A percentage of profits will go to helping women around the world.

Photographer Amanda Eatwell is seeking small businesses owners who want to put some new photographs on their website, while Isa Levy repeated her offer to Small Business Network members of ‘rent a painting’ for the equivalent of £2.50 per week.  And, while Marcia MacLeod did not have any new special offers, she was very proud to announce that her magazine, Your Allotment, has finally not only broken even, but made a profit – just 18 months after launch.
2pm Talk – Bringing Purpose to Business with Rebecca Fishman
But maybe Marcia and some of the other small business owners would do even better after the talk by Rebecca Fishman, business and personal development coach specialising in small and new businesses. Rebecca, whose business is called Lab of Self,  spoke on articulating our sense of purpose, as small business owners, in a clear Life-Purpose Statement.  Having a clear sense of purpose is essential in order to create a vision for life and ensure we have the ability to see ‘the bigger picture’. Without a clear idea of your life purpose, you cannot have a clear idea of your business purpose – and without that, you probably don’t have much hope of success.

Just another example of the help, support and advice members get from the Small Business Network!
