This was a really great meeting in which we focused a lot on using the web to bring in more business.

Valerie Eaton’s masterclass on email marketing was very comprehensive – she told us exactly how and why to set up an email newsletter campaign to bring in more business. For more information on Valerie’s virtual assistant services visit www.smartva.co.uk

New member Neill Blokland of YseUp (one of Neill’s many talents is to optimise your website for mobile phones for a very reasonable fee) gave his penny’s worth about email marketing – he’s actually tested out whether you get more sign ups to your newsletter if you just ask for an email address compared to if you ask for other details like a first name. He found that you get 10% more sign ups if you only ask for an email address. Neill is going to be helping Liz improve the look and functioning of the SBN blog and will also be giving a masterclass on Smartphone Marketing at the next West Hampstead meeting on 4 October.

Other business owners who were also present: allotment magazine editor and copywriter Marcia MacLeod; hypnotherapist Cathy Simmons, who also brought along another recently qualified hypnotherapist, Nicola Berry; Michael Cavalli who sells health products in Austria and is looking to set up in the UK; Sumi Gupta who runs a social media agency; and Sally Mayor who is a copywriter.

Next SBN Meeting: Monday 19 August, 12.30-2.30pm in Muswell Hill – 2pm Talk: Serendipity – A New Way of Doing Business with Sangeeta Haindl

Next West Hampstead SBN Meeting: Tuesday 4 October, 12.30-2.30pm – 2pm Masterclass – Smartphone Marketing with Neill Blokland
